Cocoa Beach, Fla. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Bismarck Funeral Home. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Bismarck.Visitation will be held Monday from 3 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Bismarck Funeral Home.Duane was born April 10, 1956, in McLaughlin, S.D., to Jack and Erma (Netzer) Gehring of McIntosh, S.D., where he grew up, attended school and graduated high school.After school, Duane worked on a ranch with Lee and Jerry Green and other ranches in the area. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator with Gustafson Construction, Jeffrey Lyn Construction and Bachmeier Construction. In 1979, Duane started his career with Kirby vacuum in Mandan. Duane married Kathleen Ternes of McIntosh on Aug. 29, 1981. They moved to Jamestown in 1983 to start their own distributorship, also with dealers in North Dakota and South Dakota. As a distributor, Duane received numerous prestigious awards from Kirby along with countless trips around the world.Duane had a great love for life. Spending time with his best friend and wife, Kathleen, traveling the world together, going to car shows, drag races, interest in collector cars and the beach was what he lived for.There was no greater man on the planet that could talk philosophy better than Duane. He was very compassionate and charismatic, mentoring many people along the way. He could turn every negative into a positive and always found “A Silver Lining in Every Cloud.” Duane always took time to speak to anyone, whether he was giving a motivational speech to a large group of people or one on one over a cocktail. Duane always had a quote for anyone for any occasion, his favorite was, “Always Think Good Thoughts!”Duane is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathleen; and his brothers, Clifford, McIntosh, S.D., Lyle, Rapid City, S.D., and Ray, Torrance, Calif.
